#1: Tyler the Creator – IGOR

Tyler the Creator’s latest LP album landed on May 17, 2019 under the Columbia label, and came as the artist’s 5th studio album to date. Produced completely by Tyler, the album features guest appearances by Kanye West, Solange, Jerrod Carmichael, Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti. It also boasts backing tracks from the likes of La Roux, Jessy Wilson, Charlie Wilson, Slowthai, Pharrell, Santigold and others.

IGOR immediately received widespread praise from critics upon its launch, and debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200, making it Tyler’s 1st US number-1 album. Its lead single ‘Earfquake’ (originally written for Justin Bieber and Rihanna) became the artist’s highest charting US Billboard Hot 100 song, peaking at number 13.

#2: Billie Eilish – When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? is talented teen Billie Eilish’s debut studio album. The album debuted on March 29, 2019 and Eilish co-wrote the majority of the record with her brother Finneas O’Connell, who also produced it.

The album has since been hailed as an avant-pop/art-pop masterpiece. It has also proven to be commercially successful, topping charts in the UK, US, Canada and other countries. The biggest song is the iconic hit ‘Bad Guy’, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 at number 1. Another 2 singles – ‘When the Party’s Over’ and ‘You Should See Me in a Crown’ – were released before the album’s announcement.

#3: Lizzo – ‘Cuz I Love You

‘Cuz I Love You is Lizzo’s 3rd album release since her EP Coconut Oil landed in 2016. The American singer-rapper released the album through Nice Life and Atlantic Records on April 19, 2019. Its number 1 single ‘Truth Hurts’ has since topped the Billboard Hot 100, and singles ‘Juice’ and ‘Tempo’ have proven massively popular internationally as well.

#4: Ariana Grande – Thank U, Next

Thank U, Next is Ariana Grande’s 5th studio album, which landed on February 8, 2019 and became an instant 2019 smash hit. The pop singer enlisted producers and writers like Max Martin, Tommy Brown, Ilya Salmanzadeh and Andre ‘Pop’ Wansel for the project, which coincided with the death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller and a break-up with fiancée Pete Davidson.

The title track is the lead single, and it quickly peaked on the charts of 12 nations, becoming Grande’s first number 1 single on the US Billboard Hot 100. It also broke numerous records, including a record for the most plays in a day by any female artist on Spotify. Another single, ‘7 Rings’, peaked at number 1 in 15 countries, making Grande the 3rd female artist to have 2+ songs debut on the Hot 100.

#5: Beyoncé – Homecoming

Homecoming: The Live Album is American star Beyoncé’s 5th live album. It went live on April 17, 2019 after being recorded the previous year at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California. The album feature’s Beyoncé’s full performance at the festival, which critics have described as ‘historic’. Highlights of the album include tracks ‘I Been On’ and ‘Before I Let Go’.

#6: Vampire Weekend – Father of the Bride

Father of the Bride is US indie rock band Vampire Weekend’s 4th studio album. It hit radio on May 3, 2019, and came as the band’s first album release in almost 6 years. It was preceded by three double singles; ‘Harmony Hall’ / ‘2021’, ‘Sunflower’ / ‘Big Blue’ and ‘This Life’ / ‘Unbearably White’.

The new album boasts a number of collaborations with the likes of Danielle Haim, Steve Lacy, Dave Macklovitch of Chromeo, DJ Dahi, Sam Gendel, BloodPop, Mark Ronson, and Batmanglij. It has been described as referential and musically diverse, pairing direct lyrics with a cheerful musical mood.
